Subject: Re: Broad House

Hello Jo -

Sorry for my slow reply! I was a bit erratic in email contact while I
was in England.

We had an absolutely wonderful time, and I know that several of us are
planning to write about the amazing work you all did (including Katie
with the Lola boats) on the tripadvisor website, in case others are
making similar decisions about special occasions. My mother said that
it was truly her most wonderful birthday ever, and all your thoughtful
preparations (as well as the lovely house and surroundings) definitely
played a big part in that.

Everything was incredibly positive – the food was fantastic, and the
rooms were even nicer than they looked on the website, but what
impressed everyone in the group most of all was how kind and
consistently friendly all the staff were. That really made the
occasion very special.

The only tiny, tiny quibble I could mention (if you truly want the
less positive feedback) is the portion size of the pork loin in the
Saturday dinner menu. I think a lot of people felt it was a bit out
of balance with the rest of the tasting menu – the meat was a *huge*
serving, and would have been lovely and generous in a 3 course meal,
but for that kind of menu felt perhaps a little wasteful/excessive.
But the quality of ALL the food we ate with you, including the special
Saturday dinner, was exceptionally high – both in the ingredients and
in the excellent, thoughtful but fairly simple recipes. And that issue
about portion size was a very small thing amidst what was a truly
exceptional experience for us all.

I certainly hope that we do find an opportunity/excuse to come back!

Thank you again – and to all the staff,

Antonia

Just a short note to thank your team for their hospitality on Thursday night when I had the pleasure of finally staying in your wonderful hotel.

Myself and Mel could not stop saying throughout the stay how very proud you and Caroline (and Henry) must be with your project, everything is a million miles away from the corporate style often found and is clearly designed to be comfortable and relaxing.

The room (Harrys) was amazing, tremendously comfortable and very luxurious. It was very pleasant to enjoy a glass of bubbles looking out over the gardens. Despite having only finished work an hour earlier, and travelled the whole of about 8 miles to get to you, we felt like we were miles away from anywhere. If we weren’t occupying the room, we could be found in the library, enjoying the great selection of books and drifting into a state of meltdown enjoying a beer or three!

A very well conducted tour of the facilities by our friend Cheryl left us reconsidering our potential Greek wedding in favour of a possible Norfolk wedding. Watch this space…

The dining room was a great setting for a meal well chosen. Myself and Mel enjoyed 6 very different options for our meals and every one was superb, absolutely delicious and every bit deserving of any awards you have already picked up, and those no doubt yet to come. The service was perfect, at a pace to be expected, and suffice to say my glass was never empty!

Breakfast on Friday was similarly perfect, served with a calmness that reminds you of the setting that you occupy. Whilst the “Full English” is my normal choice, I opted for smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, I was absolutely not disappointed! And “full” too, perhaps a little too full considering we had ordered Afternoon Tea for 1pm! A walk around the gardens, a childish play on the swing and a relaxing 20 minutes by the waters side on the seat swing soon passed away the time (too quickly) and we returned to the Library to read the history of your success, then indulged in the delights of the Afternoon Tea. We had a good shot at clearing the food, but alas it was not to be, and we left some for the staff, though it wasn’t through lack of trying!

An absolutely perfect night, albeit to short a visit, and marred only by the fact that you were unable to be with us; I hope that you are recovering well.

I think I have some work to do to match the hospitality next time you visit for a round of golf – try not to make it too long.

Best wishes

Ryan and Mel

Eight centuries ago, according to Pier Crescenzi’s chronicle, vines were already being grown at Gambellara. And on those same green hills of the Veneto region, the Zonin family has been producing wines for seven generations .  The Zonin family  heads the most important viticultural group in Italy as well as one of the leading private winemaking companies in Europe.  Today they own vineyards that are situated in the seven most important quality wine-producing regions of Italy.

Norwich City Of Culture #Norwich2013 – This will be great for Toursim

Back the Norwich City of Culture bid – This will be great for

VisitNorwich is encouraging its members and industry colleagues to help support the bid for the UK City of Culture 2013. Read on to find out more about the bid and how you can play your part….

What is the UK City of Culture Programme?

The competition was the brain child of Phil Redmond, writer, producer and director. He was heavily involved in the delivery of Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture 2008. He recognised the benefits attached to a city becoming the capital of culture and that it would be more than 20 years before another UK city could bid to be European capital. He recommended the then Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport that the UK should have its own competition for a UK City of Culture.

The successful city will hold the title for one year and it won’t be awarded again until 2017. The winning city will need to produce a year long cultural programme as well as hosting a number of high profile events such as the Booker prize, the Brit awards and the Turner prize. It will also need to clearly and measurably demonstrate social and economic step change – culture must be used to make a real difference to the people in the city and to the future, prosperity and standing of Norwich.

In the first round there were 29 cities and areas for the UK bidding, this was reduced to 14 and a final short list of four announced in February. The other shortlisted cities are Sheffield, Birmingham and Derry/Londonderry.

Why is Norwich bidding?

If Norwich is successful in the City of Culture competition it will benefit in a number of ways which include:

  • £200 million attracted into the local economy
  • 30% increase in visitors to Norwich in 2013
  • Increased participation in cultural activity from all parts of the city creating a positive impact on community cohesion
  • 2000 volunteering opportunities
  • Increased positive image and perception of the city locally, nationally and internationally
  • Enhanced recruitment and retention of staff for Norwich businesses
  • Improved opportunities and life chances for children and young people through engagement with cultural activities
  • Increased pride and confidence in the city both internally and externally

How will the final bid be delivered?

The bidding process is being managed by a small bid team made up of members of the City Council’s cultural services team, representatives from key cultural organisations in the city, and a small group of technical advisors.

What is the timetable for the bid?

Friday 21st May – deadline for submission of full and final bids. A 52 page document plus appendices.
Week beginning 7th June – Regeneris send their technical assessment of the bid to the Independent Advisory Panel.
Week beginning 13th June – presentations to the independent panel from the shortlisted cities.

What can you do?

  • Talk positively about the city bidding
  • Use the logo on your website, emails and newsletters
  • Write a letter of support to Norwich City Council c/o UK City of Culture Bid, Norwich City Council, City Hall, Norwich, NR2 1NH or emailcityofculture@norwich.go.uk Agree to be a partner

We wanted something that would task us mentally and physically and that we needed to train for as we all are carrying a few extra pounds  .

So how high can we go in Norfolk ,we thought there has to be something that challenges us ,but after looking around we wanted something a bit higher thanHorsey Windpump  (watch this vid the sceenery is just slightly different ) or Norwich Cathedral .  or the Castle  so we decided to look further affield

So many people have done the 3 peaks Challenge and Killimanjaro so we said lets do something different , how about the highest mountain in the world we said jokingly as the chances of us climbing to the top is nil . Trip Details

Main Description

Solu Khumbu is the most famous area of Nepal and perhaps in the entire Himalaya. It is the home of Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain, as well as several other giants, and of the hardy mountain people renowned in mountaineering lore – the Sherpas. After flying from Kathmandu to Lukla, you commence your trek along the Dudh Kosi Valley passing numerous small villages and homesteads.  Beyond Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa ‘capital’, you’ll pause at the celebrated monastery at Thyangboche before continuing on to reach Everest Base Camp itself – scene of many triumphs and tragedies. Before descending from the mountains you’ll also ascend Kalar Patar, a fine vantage point with magnificent views of Everest and the surrounding peaks. The Nepalese call Everest Sagarmatha, or ‘head of the oceans’. Everest is one of the world’s most awe-inspiring sights and along with its surrounding peaks, can truly be called one of the natural wonders of the world – a perfect place for adventure!

Adventure Level

This trip is graded as ‘strenuous’, with walks of 4-8 hours per day, reaching a maximum altitude of 5545m – please refer to grading at the front of our brochure. You must be an experienced walker, ideally with experience of walking at altitudes over 3500m. Conditions in the teahouses are very basic.
